Application of Defoamer in Water-based Ink

The demand for water-based coatings has increased significantly, especially the application of water-based inks has increased year by year. For example, gift packaging, food packaging, liquid milk packaging, etc., all use environmentally friendly water-based printing inks such as acrylic resin, rosin resin, and water-based polyurethane.
The rapid development of water-based coatings and inks has driven the development of water-based coating additives and ink additives. Defoamer is an indispensable and important additive for water-based ink, which plays a role in eliminating foam and inhibiting foam generation during the grinding, ink preparation and use of water-based ink. The development of water-based ink has driven the increase in the amount of defoamers, and at the same time put forward higher requirements for the performance of defoamers, mainly including:
①Excellent dynamic defoaming and antifoaming performance, which can prevent micro
Bubbles and big bubbles.
②The system has good compatibility, good auxiliary film-forming performance, and will not produce shrinkage cavity and fish eyes.
③Chemical stability, high temperature resistance, strong acid and alkali resistance, and can still maintain good defoaming performance in different application conditions (within the pH range of 4-12).
④ Improve the leveling, wettability, abrasion resistance and smoothness of inks and coatings.
The defoamers used in water-based inks mainly include: (1) Silicone defoamers: mainly include emulsion polysiloxane and polyether modified silicone defoamers. This kind of defoamer has excellent anti-foaming ability and thermal stability, and is widely used in water-based inks.
(2) Polyether block type defoamer: This type of defoamer has excellent compatibility, less paint film surface defects, does not affect gloss and haze, and is suitable for ink with high surface requirements.
(3) Composite defoamer: mineral oil/wax/organic silicon, mineral oil/hydrophobic particles/organic silicon, organic silicon/hydrophobic particles, etc. This kind of defoamer has excellent versatility and compatibility, and less surface defects of paint film.
